I recently rented vehicles from both Hertz Kelowna and Hertz Abbotsford, and unfortunately, I experienced a very similar situation at both locations. As a walk-up customer, I was presented with rental details that included upgrades I did not request or ask for. The concern is that these additional charges can easily go unnoticed if you simply sign the contract without carefully reviewing every line. Our flight out of Kelowna was cancelled due to smoke so we had to extend our rental by a day. We were told we could only do that by calling the agency and that doing it online was not possible. We called 15 times all day and only got through once because they never picked up their phone. When our flight was cancelled a second time with less notice, we called again several times but could not get through. Horrible service and price gouging customers! A bunch of us had flights cancelled recently in Edmonton trying to get to Kelowna due to the wildfires. We were all at the rental counter trying to book cars to get home and the price kept going up for each person because they knew we were desperate. In the end I was was told I had to pay $750, and I couldn’t decline their insurance even though I already have coverage through my own vehicle insurance policy.
