I was flying in from Montreal Canada and called a few days before my arrival and I was told they would have a bike for me. I was told to send an email the day before to confirm the bike size. To my shock, upon landing in LA, I received an email informing me that they wouldn't be able to rent me a bike since they were conducting "store inventory". Absolutely unacceptable and unreliable. Would never recommend this place to any serious cyclist.

Efficient, friendly service, excellent price for a brand new model, and fabulous warranty. Also added a kickstand and water bottle/carrier for free! Overall great experience.

Worst bike shop in LA, absolutely. Go anywhere else – I've been there about a year ago, interested in an entry level mountain bike, and it was a complete disaster. A brazilian seller (Santa Monica store), was very rude, and had no interest in showing me entry-level bikes, and even called me fat! He even suggested me to look on Ebay or Craigslist if I wanted bikes to lose weight. "Did I say I want a bike to lose weight?". He was silent. He left me alone when another customer arrived with an expensive road bike to be revised. ... read more

worst place go ever if you like riding bikes – I can't believe how bad the customer service is here. I have been a few times because I had to and each time I had to leave because I hated the people that worked there. I am in the customer service industry and I know what effort it takes to make someone feel welcome, and this place has none of that. I love cycling and have gotten some friends into it. we tried buying a bike from them and they treated us like we were nothing. Then laughed when we complained that no one helped u... read more

Nice store to look at, but if you need information, this isn't the place to get it. – I went to Helen's Cycles for the first time with questions about converting an early 80s road bike into a fixed gear bicycle, which is a really common trend right now. Upon walking in, I was impressed by the store's size, selection, and layout. After taking a lap around the store to take it all in, I approached some of the sales staff at an oddly placed counter in a barely visible corner of the store. When I walked up, most of the staff sca... read more

Just a HORRIBLE place. – I just got back from Helens, and honestly, I cannot remember a time that I have been treated so poorly. I am looking to get into cycling and to BUY a bike, and I was basically ignored for 20 minutes. One guy finally at least responded to my "hello" and promised that someone would help me in just a second. I browsed for 20 minutes aimlessly while my guy just sat at a computer chatting with his other buddies. He even looked right at me again from across the store, and told me to hang tight...to no avai... read more

Rude salespeople, snarky mechanics, overpriced tune-ups – Helen's Cycles on Broadway in Santa Monica=Bike Shop Hell. Salespeople pass you off to someone else if you are not dating material. Then I got a kid who couldn't tell me what size frame my son needed. I was also dropping my bike off for a tune-up. I asked the mechanic how long it would take. He grunted "7 days lady, you leaving it or WHAT?" I left it only because I was tired and wanted to get out of there. Then I got angry. I called friends who all hate Helen's and hi... read more

Good shop, but haggle for your price! Helen's is a great shop with with a nice selection of bikes. The staff is knowledgable and and helpful when they aren' t helping someone else. All ride, and some ride for Helen's cycling team. They have a good selection of other procucts as well. They do great repair work, but it's pricey (you get what you pay for). If you consider buying a bike, haggle! All bikes not on sale are listed at MSRP They will reduce the price by 10% on most bikes. If you're lucky, you can find GREAT sales on ... read more
