This Southern style restaurant is attached a general market store. The restaurant is located upstairs and has a great ambiance. I came here to celebrate a good friend's birthday. The fresh oysters were fantastic. I tried the fish with a cauliflower mash. Apparently the fried chicken is a popular dish but I did not try it. The desserts were phenomenal. If you're in the neighborhood, Harold's is a great place to grab a bite.
I'm rating the restaurant, not the grocery store. Pleasant atmosphere and attractive dining room. Unfortunately the negatives list is much longer: - Sloppy servers: Forgot our orders, couldn't remember or describe anything off the menu. Absurdly long absences on a quiet day with few other customers - Wildly inconsistent serving sizes: my wife's entree was enough to feed two, whereas mine was barely a snack. I'm always looking for good Cajun/Creole food so I was excited about trying Harold's menu for Houston Restaurant week. The restaurant itself is above Heights General store and has a bright open space with a great view. The gumbo was thick with a little too much okra, which left it a bit slimy. It also lacked flavor.
