The staff is great, but the number system is horrible. There is only one screen that shows the numbers and at what window. There is no way to know how many are in front of you. At least 20 people were in the hallway seats where you can’t see the screen. With the other activities in the building you can’t hear what number is being announced. As a senior now that was needing a handicap hanger. I now have a heart problem and I couldn’t stand for the 50 minutes and missed my number when it was called. It seems there should be a ... read more
Had a 0920 appointment at tax collector for vehicle title/registration and even received confirmation email for appointment. I arrived this morning to find the office was closed down without any notice found directly provided to me or on public platforms. Dissapointing considering you have to make these appointments weeks in advance and have deadlines to me to prevent extra charges.
I had made a 2pm appointment to do a title transfer about a month in advance. I arrived about 20min. Early... the place was extremely crowded! I had to get a number & wait. The lady at the front desk(window 9) was so wonderful, knowledgeable and professional. My number was called out at exactly 2pm! Window 8 took care of my title transfer, she was dull and not happy to be there! But honestly everyone else seemed so kind, and had smiles on their faces:) not easy to do this all day long, but they did an amazing job, thank you:... read more
Status quo for any government office. Inefficient, inconvenient and inconsistent. The information they provide is either incomplete or misleading and there is zero grace given. It is 2025 and registering a vehicle, updating a registration or paying any taxes has never been more cumbersome. Embarrassed that our tax dollars fund something so broken.
If you are buying a house for the first time, make sure you register your name with HCAD (or your appraisal district and not just the county clerk), because if your title company doesn't you will be stuck with hundreds or thousands of dollars in fees and penalties you aren't aware of from the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector office, and they won't waive them.
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector has a 2.4 star rating with 100 reviews.
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector is open now. It will close at 4:30 p.m.
