I tried twice this year to get my mother assessed for placement in Gables memory care program. Initial contact was professional and encouraging, however, follow up information or decisions was incredibly hard to get. Ellis McDonald ended up brushing me off with a vague voicemail stating that the "regionals" said they were unable to place her - no reason why, no follow-up phone call, just nothing. The Gables was recommended to me by a friend who had recently placed her mom in the Memory Care unit and has been very pleased. I did a tour with Ellis, who was great. He walked me through the facility, answered all my questions and frankly was just a nice person to talk with - not super salesy or high pressure which is a big turnoff to me. The facility is lovely - bright, cheery, and tons of staff everywhere - which you don't always see in other facilities due to turnover. There's a good energy there that was appealing. After my 80-year-old father spent two months at the VA hospital, finding the right assisted living community became our top priority. This is the best place to live. In my case, I opted for the best option with lots of freedom and only five minutes from Mayo Clinic, with the best doctors, as competent as Manhattan NYC. No regrets with my decision. I disposed of most of my problems as a still agile, clear-minded person. More happy now with 1/10 of the concerns of living and doctors of Manhattan in the best hospitals, but not interested in the high risk of death of an elderly. This is my new home.
