Strange you can't post to the "Happiness is Pets" website or Facebook page, but wanted to make you AWARE of a dog from this store turned into the West Suburban Humane Society just down the street.: Julian's story goes like this: he was bred in a puppy mill and sold through a broker to Happiness Is Pets. He lived at the store in a small, elevated cage (they look a little like an aquarium) from the time he was 6 - 8 weeks old until he was 4 months old, only ever leaving the cage when someone wanted to interact with him for possible purchase. The puppies aren't walked at pet stores and they never go outside. As time passes and the puppies become older, the price is lowered and lowered until it is such a deal that someone looking for a bargain buys them. That's why Julian was able to be purchased for $500 instead of $1000. The man who bought Julian had been to our shelter the day before to look at Gus, who turned out to be too much dog for his current dog, a golden retriever. So he bought Julian, took him home, and called us two days later asking us to take him. He said the puppy pooped and peed all over his house and was terrorizing his golden retriever. When Julian arrived, he was underweight, had an intestinal parasite, an ear infection and had little muscle mass in his hind legs. In fact, his back right leg kept bowing inward because it was weak. The vet feels there is nothing wrong with Julian's structure. His knees and bones are fine. He is the way he is because of how he was forced to live. Yesterday, Julian's paws began to bleed and we are guessing it is because the pads are fragile after not having been outside for most of his life. He does need one more x-ray to make sure his growth plates are okay, but we plan to temp test Julian on Monday and get him on his way to a real life.
DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SUPPORT A PLACE LIKE THIS?????
