Growing up (30 years ago) Hans Weisshaar was where everyone went for string instruments whether it was low end student instruments all the way to highest end Stradivarius. However, Weisshaar today is a shell of it's former self as the new owner sold the long time shop in Larchmont and moved to a small studio in San Marino instead. Beautiful construction and restoration of violins and other string instruments.
I bought a USD 14,000 violin from Hans Weisshar in California many years ago. I recently requested an opinion on its approximate value in today’s market, sending a copy of the original appraisal issued by Weisshar, plus many photos. I have kept this violin at home in its case, and haven’t played much on it, so the condition is the same as when I purchased it.
