I stopped by what appeared to be a wonderful little shop on Cannery Row. They had a buy 3 get 1 free deal. I selected 2 $14 bracelets and 2 $12 hair clips. With the discount this should have been $40 plus tax. I paid in cash and did not count my change until exiting the store (an unfortunate mistake on my end). I did think it was not common practice that the employee completing the check out process did not tell me how much the total cost of my items were and gave me change with no receipt.
