The entrance to Foster Library looks like a greenhouse, but it's actually an 80-foot-long triangular skylight – In Short There aren't a lot of paper-bound books or periodicals here. Instead, tables are lined with dozens of computers linked to dozens of databases such as LEXIS/NEXIS and Dow Jones, e-mail and the Internet. Upstairs are seven group study rooms, also wired for computers and the Internet. An 80-foot-long skylight naturally illuminates the library, even on cloudy days. This crown jewel of a park, with an expansive botanical collection, resides in the heart of the city. – In Short The Washington Park Arboretum is co-maintained by the city of Seattle and the University of Washington. More than 4,000 labeled species of trees, flowers and other florae are planted in this 200-acre public park. Along with several jogging trails, the park features water access, a gift shop and a three-acre Japanese garden (planted in 1960 by famous Japanese landscaper, Juki Iida).

Eye candy for plant lovers! – The Arboretum is a paradise for those with a need for green. What a delight! It has such a wide variety of amazing trees, shrubs, flowers and a good squirrel population to boot. Perfect place for picnics and daydreaming.

Midwestern Musings – I visited the park while attending a convention, and found it very satisfying. Well-kept, with nearby parking and clearly worthy of a visit, even on a crowded agenda. Probably the most unique feature is the small Japanese garden, with twists and turns, to give you a unique experience, if you're not from an area where this sort of park exists.

a serene haven...with trails – Although it's split in two by a rather major road, the Arboretum still manages to pack a huge punch in this urban setting. Amazing displays and collections, a Japanese Garden (priced separately), and a learning center. Rentable Canoes for $6/hr. Just a fabulous place.
