I have been backpacking every year for the past 40 years. I still manage a few times to get completely lost and separated from my companions. Some of my best experiences are when I got lost. Landing on Florence Lake and entering the General Store was one of those good experiences. Everyone there was very empathic and helpful and they have a phone. Florence Lake and Jackass Meadows was my family’s home most summers growing up. I absolutely loved the drive in, especially the section going down into Jackass Meadows. Lots of fond memories of this place. The Florence lake Store was one treat we always looked forward to after hiking up by the dam. We would stop for an ice cream or soda before going back to our campsite.
