I spent a substantial amount of money for a case involving custody. My entire purpose for retaining a lawyer was to deal with the child support aspect of the case. I asked in the beginning if that would be handled and was reassured it was included. We get to court and find out she should of filed an entire separate document. She said she would file it on my behalf after because she felt bad for dropping the ball but soon after I got a request for another $5000. So essentially I paid $15k for nothing. I’d been going through a nearly 3 year family law matter that started out with a protective order for DV, then we went into a custody battle. When I first spoke with her, it was still new and my emotions were still high, and I couldn’t contain myself. I cried a lot during these years just talking about and thinking of what happened.
