Once customer service starts acting like they have no professionalism, me and my money WALK. Period. For me. it's not about how long they have been around or what they offer. It's about the tone and nastiness of some of their customer service representatives and this last one crossed the line to the point that they now lost a 20 year customer because of it. Emigrant Direct was great when it started and several years after, in terms of rates and platform access. Fast forward 20 years, rates are no longer among the most competitive, and their platform is simply antiquated to the point of not allowing access EVEN when you have all the correct id info. They say Chrome browsers could be the culprit, but in fact access problems persist with other browsers. Customer service is horrendous.
This used to be one of the better online banks in the early 2000s due to its high-interest savings account rate, but it has leveled off significantly since then as the rate is no longer very competitive with other online banks that have more products. They only have one savings account available and limited CD offerings. It is also difficult to move money as there is no debit card available, so bank transfers are the only option.
