In seventh grade, during the 2012-2013 school year, my private school on Maryland’s Eastern Shore took us on a field trip to Echo Hill. It was a tradition for students at my school, something almost everyone went through. When we arrived, the school staff searched us for cell phones, ensuring we could not contact home. Love Echo Hill! This is a great place to get away from screens, learn some independence, and make some lasting memories and relationships. I was a camper there for eight summers and then worked there for a few years after that. Going to Echo Hill totally changed my life. I met some of my best friends there. I even met my future wife there when we were just twelve years old. We have four kids now and our oldest goes to Echo Hill. He LOVES it.
My child was here for about 24 hours. This is his opinion. "The people are very weird, the sleeping area is full of bugs, the food is terrible (they had rice, peas, and bread for lunch), and the bathrooms have a maggot problem. They hiked at night with no flashlights (what's the point of that?). There were rusty nails on the beach. Why would anyone knowingly send a child here? He had a better experience exploring without the staff. This is not a spoiled child. He's camped and fished other times and loves getting dirty.
Echo Hill Camp has a 4.6 star rating with 89 reviews.
Echo Hill Camp is closed now. It will open tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
