Dr Pinkstaff insisted on prescribing Synthroid and levothyroxine vs the Armour thyroid that works for me. She cited batch inconsistencies with Armour and when I pointed out that Synthroid, too, had had inconsistencies she didn’t want to hear it. In addition, rather than looking at tsh as a range, she insisted that my tsh number be in the middleof the range, despite the fact that I can barely function at that level and am in pain. She did not want to hear it. I left and never returned. I have had the same experience with at least two other endocrinologists. For some reason they insist on synthroid and on mid range tsh numbers. In addition, most don’t even test with a T3ria or the other T’s-just TSH and T4. If my first endocrinologist were still alive, I would still go to her. She was wonderful, amd gave me my life back. Btw-the tsh range has changed several times since I was diagnosed in 1994. With a tsh of 8.5, I was “just barely” out of range. (I was so sock, I thoought I was going to die.) Then the high number was 8. Now it’s 5, and some docs believe it should be down to 3.5. Not exactly an absolute, is it? I wish docs would listen, and prescribe based on the way patients feel and function, not arbitrary numbers on a chart.

It took me awhile to find Dr Pinkstaff. I love her. The only issue is it takes forever to get an appointment with her. But once you are with her you have her full attention.
