My wife & I have Downtube folding bikes. I have the 8FH (no longer made, but similar to the current 8FS model except my gears are in an internal Sturmey Archer hub) The bike has been great. I think I've got about 800 miles on it. I've worn out one pedal bearing and the rear tire. One little trick: If you find that the gear shift gets out of adjustment after folding & unfolding, make sure the gear shift cable loop is dressed out the same each time after the unfold.
I have a Downtub bike and love it. It's 10 years old. It looks brand new.
