About

A renowned historic house situated in Downtown Middleport, the John Downing Jr., House was built back in 1859. Designed by R.A. Miller and Frederick Crowther, it is an ethnic brick building that boasts of elements of wood and various other metals. Ten years post the death of the last Downing, this residence was opened as a bread and breakfast. It promises a rich, luxurious and peaceful stay with several rooms including a parlor and dining room. The Mark Twain Room, placed at the backside of the inn, bequests a stunning view of the morning sun as you gaze at the Ohio River. The modest rates seem reasonable compared to the stellar stay at the Downing House.

Beautiful B&B on the National Registry of Historic homes near the Ohio river in Middleport. Amazing breakfast and outstanding rooms decorated in antiques. Just a few miles from sewing shops in Pomeroy.

My wife and I just wanted to get away, and relax for the weekend. We spent Saturday evening in the Becky Thatcher room. The two hostesses could not be more gracious, and accommodating. The room was perfect for us. We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is beautiful, and decorated to perfection. We highly recommend.

This B&B was built in the mid 1800's and is just charming. It is located on the main street and the owners have a great gift shop adjacent to the house. Great place to stay!
