About this business
Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. Cones were amazing and lived up to their reputation. I was a little disappointed with the taste of the ice cream. Had a lot of ice crystals...great staff and customer service!!
I love Doumar's I have been going there since 1960. Have great memories.
If you loved it before you'll still love it now. Tradition survives. Great barbecue and ice cream, great service and car hopping! What more could you ask for?
Root Beer Floats and delicious sandwiches and nice people that work there, what else do you need in a restaurant. No wonder they have been around over 100 years, straight up PLATINUM!
Worst BBQ I ever had and the service there is not anything to be jumping for joy about. They seem like they hate there job and wish they weren't there. Doumar would be rolling in his grave if he saw what happened to this place and how it seems like nobody there gives a crap anymore about food or service.
A simple, but delicious Hampton Roads tradition...Not to be missed!
