Steep drive, slate steps that chip, and a slate-topped dining table that punishes clumsy fingers. They dusted steps first so grit wouldn’t act like sandpaper, ran shoulder straps to keep the carry high, and used a padded cradle so no strap edge touched slate. A hinge pin came out at the tight door instead of forcing the angle. Inside, they found joists, set table feet over strength, and leveled until the wobble disappeared. We checked the surface in raking light—no scuffs, no apologies.

We moved a tiny retail space: one fragile neon sign and too many glass shelves. The neon rode in a rigid crate with foam cutouts around transformer points; the cord coil was taped so it couldn’t rub the tube. Glass shelves stacked with felt spacers and a rigid cap, strapped flat. They hit a mid-day dock window between deliveries, kept the boardwalk passable, and uncrated neon last so it wouldn’t become a hazard. Sign lit on the first try; shelves gleamed, no fingerprints baked by fog.
