With a venerated retail outlet and owner who is a pivotal figure in behind-the-scenes blues history, this label stands way out – The Skinny
In the world of jazz, Delmark owner Bob Koester is a name you could play the Kevin Bacon game with--he has known almost everybody there is to know at one point or another, and the label is nearly 50 years old.
Though Koester had a reputation as a tough boss for years, his love of music and role as mentor to talented individuals is difficult to match. His prodigy Bruce Iglauer founded and still runs blues powerhouse label Alligator Records, and Earwig Records owner Michael Frank also learned from Koester.
To go with a passel of locals-only favorites like Big Time Sarah, Delmark also specializes re-releases and rare recordings from big, deceased names like Big Joe Williams and Luther Allison.
