I visited the WWII Oil Storage Tunnels a few years ago and was intrigued with the history of these storage facilities. You can enter the Oil Storage Tunnels that was built during the War to avoiding bombing by the enemy. The narrow tunnels are a reminder of the important part they played in history.
An Amazing experience, a beautiful greeting from the lovely gentleman at the door, a real insight into the Bombing of Darwin.. Lest We Forget..
Pretty interesting place if you’re into a bit of history. The tunnels were built during World War II after Darwin was bombed in 1942, as a safer way to store oil underground. Walking through them now is simple but gives you a good idea of what they were used for. There are information boards and photos along the way explaining how the tunnels were built and why they were needed, which helps you understand the historical context better. It’s not a modern or interactive museum...more like a self-guided walk through the tunnels... read more
