This past weekend, I visited a store with the intention of buying a thoughtful gift for my grandmother. I was trying to show my sister a picture of the item to ensure I picked the right one, when the owner approached me. We stopped by CulturArts today while we were on Cannery Row, and it was truly amazing. There is a huge selection of alebrijes and they are the most beautiful ones I've ever seen. We had such a hard time picking out our favorites, but we found two that really spoke to us. Roberto was an incredible owner who took so much time and care to explain the patterns and symbolism to us. Absolutely amazing place, bought three lovely pieces, one as a gift that was very carefully and thoroughly wrapped up to be shipped. Highly, highly recommended!
Had a wonderful experience shopping here and learning more about Oaxaca culture. We bought beautiful and well-made handcrafted materials and the owner told us about the different areas that each item came from and what the different animals and images symbolized on each item.
One of the nicest stores I've been to, beautiful hand crafted art and it's basically a museum. I got a mini grasshopper alebrije and the seller was more than happy to tell me all about it and its history! Super nice and will come again :)
