"The American College of Sports Medicine recommends a space design temperature of 68°F-72°F for fitness spaces;" Fortunately, I'm able to work out at the Luter Family Y almost daily, typically using the circuit weight machines and the treadmills. Unfortunately, the thermometer in this space is way above that which is recommended (see above) usually 81-87 (degrees F). On occasion I comment/complain at the front desk. They seem sympathetic but nothing has changed. I'm informed the temp is controlled remotely.
Today on October 15th , I was working out and I was rudely spoken to be another member, because I was using a piece of equipment, she stood right on top of me for 3 mins , then shes says in a rude manner, Hey you , how many sets you have left. I said how about a GM 1st , or I'm JC bye the way I told her and I just started few mins ago , and again she came at me rude , asking how many and again in a rude tone and anger and I told her I just started, she walk away all mad , and i had a couple next to me working out and was lik... read more

I love the YMCA at Yorktown. Staff is kind and courteous the facility is basically clean. However I am very concerned about the floors being so slippery I know of at least four people in the last two years that have fallen. Unfortunately I am one of them. I made a suggestion that they put the rubber mats in front of the lockers because people are in wet bathing suits and go to change their clothes there.I was told that was awfully expensive but they would discuss it.
