Excellent experience in every way. Haven't been able to get any glasses that worked very well for several years, despite trying optical section at doc's office, large and small chains, and the big box. Owner Dr. Alan Seyboldt understood my specific eye situation humbly assured me he could make glasses that would actually do what I need. I couldn't go to his shop for medical reasons, so he came to my house, no extra charge! He had me put on different trial glasses for my normal vision tasks (computer, reading, outdoors, etc) to double check everything before making the actaual glasses. My new glasses are super and I'll be forever grateful, not only for his kindness and help, but the fact I can now see well enough to get things done. His dedication to quality and service are almost impossible to find these days. A rare gem in modern life.

After my husband’s LASIK surgery, he experienced some devastating vision problems, including extreme ghosting and terrible night vision. Alan has truly been a life saver for my husband and for our family. When we first met with him, he saw us after hours on a Friday evening because he knew how desperate we were for help. He has seen my husband multiple times since our initial visit and always shows so much care and compassion for our situation and has gone above and beyond to restore my husband’s vision and his quality of life. A good friend of mine who has been going to Clair Optical for years encouraged me to get my glasses there. Alan and his team are spectecular! Their prices were fair and they went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. Recently, I sat on my glasses and I was convinced I would need to purchase new glasses. Nope! Clair Optical fixed my glasses in under a minute. I am a loyal customer and will not bother to go anywhere else. Clair Optical is the BEST!

I've been struggling to get glasses OR contacts to correct my "just enough to be annoying-level" of nearsightedness and astigmatism, for 10 years. My doctors are in a well-known clinic without much of an eyeglass selection, so I've filled the prescriptions at a variety of places (then had the script *revised* 2-3 times each "round"). Ultimately I always tired of the process, & gave up on correction. This last time, I used a smaller, respectable, online eyeglass supplier. That all went well, until my 3rd script adjustment. Finally occurred to me I could look *locally* to have only the lenses replaced in my frames. I dismissed one chain store automatically, due to the incredibly long wait, and my sense the staff there have little experience in the biz. I searched for LABS in hopes of truly having this done locally, and found good reviews on Clair. I am thoroughly impressed. Staff was not only friendly, but *helpful*. How totally refreshing to not be shuffled through (even with a smile). A review of my present lenses revealed the optical center of one lens was noticeably 'off', and I received a commitment to get these glasses right. So far, so good. MD's office said script was a compromise in clarity vs no-shadows, so I'm going to test these for awhile. If the improvement doesn't seem enough to keep my wearing them, I won't hesitate to return to Clair. And start from scratch, new exam and all, if need be. The vibes I get about their commitment are just THAT good. =)

This is one of those hidden gems you'd just as soon keep to yourself. I've been goign here for over 30 years. Alan is amazing, and you'll find eye doctors with less knowledge than he has.
He FITS gas permeable lenses...Notice I said, "FITS" ..not opens the bottle, and jams them in your eye. he has the knowledge, skill, and equipment to fit these.
I had a cornea transplant 20 years ago. Alan fit me with lenses that allow me to pass the eye test at the 20/15 line..better than "perfect" and I am able to wear the lenses 14 hours straight without discomfort. The prices appear very reasonable, I think, btu truthfully have never bothered to check..Even if he was twice as much...I dont think he is, but I'd still go there.
Actually, just stay away..I love being able to walk in and have him polish my lenses...so, move along..nothing to see here..

What a fabulous place to do business. If it were not for Alan and his genuine concern about my vision, I would be unable to drive a car or read. I have Fuch’s Dystrophy Syndrome, a disease of the cornea. I had corneal transplants in both eyes and had severe astigmatism. Alan took the prescription from my eye specialist, researched my disease and realized that contacts would be the best solution in my particular case for distance vision and modified bifocals for reading. I have never had an optical company whose staff was so sincerely helpful and concerned about me and my vision. Thank you Clair Optical. You have a customer for life.

All I can tell you is you are not going to find a more committed owner. My family of near-sighted bats has been a customer of Clair Optical for 20 years. You can go to all the chain optical shops you want, but you will never find an owner more dedicated to his customers. Alan is highly educated optometrist that is well respected by all the local eye doctors- just ask. With a chain store you are lucky to see the same people the next year and who knows about their credentials.
It's the little things that sets Alan apart. Run out of contacts before you next shipment? He'll work with you, especially if you are a repeat customer. Need a specific style of hard-to-find frames? He'll find them for you.
Alan is a second-generation optometrist and is genuinely kind and very knowledgeable. My eye doctor recommended him when I was a kid, and every eye doctor (that doesn't own their own optical shop) recommends him, in my experience.
As to costs, Clair Optical can and will compete with all the chains. I've asked around and when you finally get to the bottom line, Clair Optical is as competitive as 1800Contacts and Costco.
Honestly, I would not trust my eyes to the cheesy, cost-cutting chain stores like Americas Best and Pearl, let alone the warehouse at the end of the interne. The owner, Alan, is accountable to his customers. I always have my family's glasses independently checked for an accurate prescription with my eye doctor. Over the years that is probably 20 pairs of glasses. EVERY time it was spot on. Good luck getting that with any chain or internet mail order; their quality control is no where near that. If there is a rebate available, Clair Optical always makes sure you can get it.
As to the person known as "Reviewer B," I wouldn't put much stock in her review. She had her eye doctor skip the contact fitting (to save her money obviously) & wanted Alan to do it for free, so she could use her Happenings coupon for some out-of-state mail order house. So somehow Alan is the bad guy? Does anyone you know like to work for free? Maybe they tear up their paycheck instead of cashing it every week? Why should he do a fitting for free, if she won't even buy a couple of boxes of contacts?
If you believe in small businesses and in buying local (Utah First! campaign ring a bell?), AND you want the best at a competitive price, Clair Optical should be your choice.
