We had used John who is the owner of this business for many years. About 7 years ago he failed to report income and we had to pay a penalty. We chalked this up to human error and stayed with his company. Big mistake. In 2016, he again failed to report pension income which had not changed in 12 years!! Al he had to do was to check his records from previous years but he does not keep any previous returns. THE IRS IS VERY CLEAR THAT BY LAW ALL RECORDS MUST BE KEPT FOR 3 YEARS BY THE PREPARER!
