I am not usually one to put a company on blast using social media, but I feel that others need to be warned about using Carmean Electric of Springfield so they are not taken advantage of the way we were. To be clear, this is the Carmean Electric in Springfield and Taylorville, not the one operating out of southern Illinois. We hired this company to do extensive electrical work at our home. They were responsive and did the work quickly. However, after the work was done and paid for, we found that Carmean Electric is not a licensed contractor and is not licensed to do electrical work in the city of Springfield. We also found out that they did not obtain the proper permits (since they are not licensed they cannot get permits) to do the work, so the city cannot certify that the work was done up to city code. I bought a commercial building in springfield Illinois. It had sat empty for ten years and needed a complete renovation. In December I had a contract with Carmean electric for phase 1. I immediately sent him half of the total with the other half due on completion. Somewhere along the line, they began charging me by the hour. $67.00 per hour for phone calls and meeting with inspectors.
