I had a completely unacceptable experience with public defender, Katherine Shearer. She did not appear for my hearing, nor did she contact me to let me know that she wouldn't be there to represent me. I was left entirely on my own until I started asking other public defenders in the building who was supposed to be representing me. They eventually found my replacement counsel and sent her over to me. It was clear that Ms. Shearer had done zero preparation or briefing with this replacement.
