Terrible experience. I rented through expedia. Had to put an 800 dollar deposit down before I could take the vehicle. I think I would have been better off using Uber. Beware of this scam. The lady we rented the car from said it was the normal amount but when I dropped it off everyone said it wasn't normal so they didn't know if I would be refunded.
Arrived at the Budget desk to pickup my reservation and was asked if I wanted Winter Tires. Huh! December in Edmonton. Realizing this was an upsell attempt, I asked how much and was told it was an additional $20 per day. When I indicated that was excessive, I was informed in in a smarmy manner that it wasn't the law in Alberta to use winter tires. Vehicle didn’t have working windshield wipers. In Edmonton in the snowy season (December) this is an incredible safety concern. Car asked me to insert the key to start it but it was a push button start vehicle. I also believe that when booking and offered the LDW at a lower rate, it should be honoured at the time of pick up and not extra charges added. The deposit amount is insane (for security above cost of rental). Holding $750 is insane on a 36 hour rental.
Great and fast customer service from pickup and dropping off the car.
Terrible service. I was lured into the cheaper "Mystery Car" reservation, indicating the possibility of an EV, hybrid, or other car. NO truck option was advertised under that choice. Upon arrival, the only vehicle available was a truck. My insurance does not cover trucks. The unempathetic attendant said that the extra insurance was $40 per day. The bill says $60/day plus fees, closer to $75/day. I called customer service, spoke to someone in a different country, and they would not waive the extra insurance fee. I feel mislea... read more
