From reading the reviews beforehand, I must have arrived at the Charleston airport at just the right time. Our wait was only about 20 minutes, and the checkout process was quick and efficient. When we got to our rental car, it was clean, in excellent condition, and ready to go. There was no line at the exit, so we were on our way in no time. A special shoutout to Bernard, who helped us. Terrible customer service from Budget. They charged me an extra $143.39 based on a glitchy electronic check-in device that claimed my tank was half empty, even though I returned it completely full. Because the gas station pump was out of paper, I didn't have a receipt, and Budget's staff was too lazy to look at the actual dashboard fuel gauge or mileage-to-empty screen. They just used a faulty automated system to pocket a generous fee. Absolutely unacceptable service.
I'm writing this mostly as a reminder to myself in the future. DO NOT BOOK a car at this Budget/Avis. The customer service people couldn't be nicer, super patient, and very helpful. Whatever the problem is behind the scenes however, expect to wait over an hour. Your kids will be screaming and rolling on the floor and you'll want to join them. It's not worth saving the extra $80. It has now been 2hrs since I landed. Send help.
don’t do it
Never never never again. Two people checking out hundreds. Walked to the kiosk in the garage to be told that the kiosk is only for fast break members and I have to walk all the way back to the terminal and check in. I have plenty of time so I count the number of people. 210 people on line. Two people are checking them in. ALL of the other car rental places have one or no people in line and multiple employees behind the counter. So I sign up for Fast break and then head back to the kiosk. Nope.
