*ALERT*: major safety concern with a vehicle rented at Budget in Hauppage, NY. I rented a large SUV to transport my family and I on a multi-day road trip across the country. On pickup, the interior of the car was dirty (lots of food residue from a previous rental), but that was the least of the eventual problems. DO NOT RESERVE CARS HERE! There is only one employee who manages the kiosk and he is clueless on any and all questions, deferring to the store manager and flailing his hands with oblivion when asked basic questions. Unfortunately the store manager, Gary, is utterly incompetent and rude and has no sense of what inventory is and isn’t available. Customer service was excellent and wonderful.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Avoid this place at all costs. What I experienced was not only unacceptable—it was a complete failure of basic customer service and professionalism. The first vehicle I was given was filthy, both inside and out, and reeked of cigarette smoke. It was abundantly clear that no effort had been made to clean or prepare the car for rental.
