If you're flying into Crescent City (Del Norte County Regional Airport) and need a rental car, do NOT trust Budget or Avis at this location. I am writing this review to prevent anyone else from enduring the complete nightmare I experienced. My multi-day trip was entirely derailed due to the utter unreliability of these companies. Impossible to get a car. Twice they told me they would have one only to be told they didn’t. Just close the place down. Car rentals should have cars to rent.
Prepaid for a rental car when I arrived to the location in McKinleyville they told me the car was dirty and needed to be cleaned after waiting 35 minutes they came back and couldn’t figure out how to process the rest of the way I’ve rented several times at a different location with no issues. I was also told before booking my reservation that I could return the car to a closer location but then later informed it would be an additional $500 to do so. They refused to refund my money and gave me a paper with 1-800 number on it ... read more
We recently took a trip up near Crescent City after renting from a different budget rental location. While near there, the check engine light came on in the car and I called roadside assistance as their website told me to do. The roadside assistance agent tried to get me a replacement vehicle but when he called the Crescent City location he told me that they had no vehicles available to swap.
