My experience was very good. You need to actually call the place to rent a car, don’t bother trying it online. I requested a truck, and I got a very good one. Yes, they do charge mileage but the rental is no more expensive than what you would pay at Calgary airport during tourist season. Keep in mind the remote location. The man I dealt with was lovely.
Booking via phone is a must! We received excellent customer service including a flexible pickup tailored to our needs, which allowed us to maximize our time in this remote and beautiful location. All of the staff we interacted with were kind and friendly, and offered us travel tips. The car was clean and reliable and we had no issues.
Budget Car Rental in Sandspit is hands down the worst rental car experience I have ever had. The customer service is atrocious. If you need a car rental in Haida Gwaii, I recommend flying into Masset and renting from Masset Car and Truck Rental. Regarding car rental insurance, the most cost-effective and reliable option is ICBC. I recommend getting your insurance from them rather than Budget Car Rental, which does not provide value for your money; the deductible is $5,000!
