My car did not start, and I had to have it towed. I was then told by the towing company that the car was working fine. I requested to have a different rental car as the experience of not having my car start was concerning. Then I was subsequently charged for the towing and not informed of this by the rental company. Budget Car Rental Fairbanks: Extremely disappointing and honestly unsafe experience. We specifically reserved an all-wheel-drive SUV to handle snowy conditions in Alaska. What they did not tell us at pickup was that the vehicle had all-weather tires, not proper snow tires. Also I think one of the wheel slip sensors was having a problem. Every turn was slipping. Extremely thankful they had a car for us to rent, as well as a really helpful employee (Makayla) at the desk to rent it to us. Alaska 4x4 illogically and rudely screwed us over big time in February, despite us reserving the vehicle back in October, but Budget was able to provide for us, getting our schedule back on track and saving our Fairbanks trip. I do wish Budget offered snow tires though, or if they do offer them, have more available as we weren’t able to get any.
Beware zero leniency or flexibility on drop off. Was going to be charged 65 dollars or a full day for dropping off less than an hour late after calling to let them know I was running slightly behind and filling up the tank before I exchanged with them for a cheaper vehicle for another week. Wasted a trip to town just ended up keeping the same vehicle for a day and returning for my other rental tomorrow because I refuse to be charged a whole day for an hour with notice. Stranded in Fairbanks with a group of 6 people because they decided to give us a compact car instead of the SUV with 3rd row seating that we booked MONTHS ago. Showed copies of paperwork and screenshots and the woman working at the counter literally couldn’t care less. Said basically to take what was available.
