Great Take out, overpriced groceries Long the favorite caterer of Harvard seminars, Broadway has some of the nicest sandwiches anywhere. Rich mayonnaise, spicy mustard, and succulent roast beef, as well as freshly baked bread make boring academic talks somewhat tolerable. However, when poor graduate students-- and even junior faculty members-- have to spend their own money on the grocery there, they have to choose between the that nice looking croissant or the box of imported Belgium crackers.
Broadway market Hmm. This store fits the bill for a large "upscale" convenience store, with it's small produce section, canned goods, etc. But the prices are way too high. No doubt it will be able to provide you with the organic tomato sauce or free-range eggs that you need immediately, but do the bulk of your shopping elsewhere.
Gourmet! Great selection of prepared foods and baked goods. Fresh produce and excellent variety for a smaller market. Pricey though, and avoid 11-12:30 during the school year...
