I was here on the ground with two other immediate family members on December 30th, 1993. It was indeed worth the stop and then some. I really enjoy the open country scenery. I love Bowlins stores!!! I grew up with them. Every trip we would have to stop we would get a snack, buy a souvenir and get gas. Now we take my grandkids and stop at the Bowlins on every trip. It is a long time family tradition. There is always interesting merchandise and every one finds something they want. We go most often to the store in Akela flats because it is the closest one to El Paso where we live and it is the perfect stopping point. Very friendly and they have much more here than it appears. A good place to do.
Enjoyed world famous pecan cookies and fudge. Saw the desert Autobot and an alien guarding the restrooms. If you're into fireworks they had the Godfather of boxes, nearly 3' wide and almost 6' tall.
We stopped after seeing signs for the famous desert robot and were pleasantly pleased. The freshly baked cookies were delicious! The bathrooms were clean and the employees were all very friendly. The gift shop has a ton of cool knick knacks and they also sell fireworks.
