Undecided I have been to Memorial hospital twice myself. The first time was to have a Cesarean delivery of my second daughter. The nursing staff was generally nice, though it left a little to be desired. I had my first daughter at KMC however, and thought it was much better. My second experience was horrible however. I had some fainting episodes back in March. My doctor told me to go to ER immediately if it happened again. I went to the ER and the doctor didn't seem to care. They did an EKG and some chest X-Rays after I just had the same things done at BFMC the day before. Of course they showed nothing and the doctor released me. On the way out to my car I collapsed on the front lawn. I immediately called my doctor who told me to go straight back. The head nurse and the doctor didn't care AT ALL. So much for caring huh? So, I hate to say it but because of the last experience I will stay away from having my 3rd child here at all costs.

Fantastic birth experience! I had my second daughter at Memorial Hospital and it was a wonderful experience. The nursing staff was fantastic, the rooms were very roomy, and the entire experience was great. We got moved from our original birthing suite to another room in an older side of the hospital, but it was still nice and the staff was still fantastic!

Hospital While a hospital isn't usually something you get to choose, I would offer a warning about Bakersfield Memorial. Our daughter was hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening virus, and we were completely unimpressed with the nursing care provided. We were placed in a room with a child who had an airborne virus that was extremely contagious, and when we refused to let her be subjected to yet another illness we spent almost a full day in the floor's TV room waiting for the private room our pediatrician had requested given our daughter's condition. Luckily, our doctor was an advocate for my daughter and we were eventually given a room, but the nursing staff was clearly annoyed with us and it seemed to affect the care given our daughter, who was a toddler and certainly not at fault. We even heard the nurses down the hall bad-mouthing us for how demanding we were. If we had it to do over again, we'd be wary of having one of our children hospitalized at Bakersfield Memorial. There are probably fabulous nurses there that give terrific care to children, it just so happened that the ones we came in contact with did not.
