DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM AVIS. I have used Avis before and never had problems until this recent time I rented a car from Oct. 3rd to Oct. 17th. I originally rented for 6 days then extended once and ended up returning the car a day late. I was completely aware of extra charges and fees and had no problem with that. The day I retuned the car I paid all my dues and with the time I had it up until I took it back I was charged 3 separate times with a total of $1,664.12. Yesterday morning I returned a van I rented. The guy told me there would be a $15 charge because I was maybe a hour late dripping off the van. That was fair. When I got home I looked at the receipt emailed to me and there was a $450 smoke fee!!! I don’t smoke at all. I had my son with me who has extreme asthma so even if I did smoke, I couldn’t with him. I called the manager at the Velp location about it. He said some device said it had 60 something hits of smoke detections. I said it’s wrong! I didn’t smoke. So I decided to... read more

First off, the little things. I prepaid to rent a 12 passenger van. Last time I did that we received a Ford Transit, which was great. This time it was Chevrolet E3500. It didn't even have Bluetooth, the sliding door stuck so bad it required an adult to open it, and there were ants crawling around in the cargo area. Now the bigger stuff.
