Renting a car from Avis Budget at Deer Lake Airport was a horrible experience and felt like a scam. The final bill ended up much higher than the confirmed reservation because of multiple hidden charges added at return, none of which were explained when I picked up the car. They added fees for late return and other services that were never disclosed, and they didn’t honor prepaid gas as promised. It’s way expensive than a normal car rental and they have a lot of hidden charges like concession recovery fee, energy recovery fee, DY fee, vehicle Lic fee, and then comes the tax. I am literally laughing at myself coz the rates they showed me when i booked the car were skyrocketed when i returned it even after paying advance and extra fee that they keep on hold of 750.
There’s service and then there’s Leona at Navis. Kind, thoughtful, and deeply deeply care about her customers. She went out of her way to make me feel accommodated—she gave advice, helped me navigate the upgrade process without being pushy, and helped me find a ride home. I’ve probably rented cars 60 times in my life and this was, hands down, the best one yet. Hope to be back in Western Newfoundland soon and when I do I’ll definitely be renting from Avis!
