I booked a car with Avis more than a month in advance, and the reservation was fully prepaid. To my shock, just 30 minutes before the start of my rental period, I received a cancellation email from Avis with no explanation at all. What made the situation worse was being charged a $150 cancellation fee, even though it was Avis who cancelled the booking although after calling Customer care later the fee was waived. I had a confirmation and a reminder that I received 15 minutes before arriving at the counter. I got there on a Sunday night only to be told they didn’t have any vehicles. They had my email and phone number but couldn’t be bothered to notify me. The counter agent didn’t apologize, just said “I don’t know why corporate makes these reservations “

This location left a lot to be desired. I was on the last flight in and clearly the last reservation of the night. Even though I arrived an hour before closing, the staff rushed through the process and disappeared as soon as I had the keys. The car wasn’t ready — I waited 20 minutes while they claimed it was being cleaned and refueled, even though there were dozens of other cars on the lot.
