I got a car at about 11:15 (scheduled at 11 to pick up but with many processing at the service counter we got a car at 11:15), I asked …until what time we can stay with the car and need to return the car. He said..until 11:30. I came to the service counter returned the car at 11:32 and the assistant told me to report the updated mile. I asked my husband to walk back to the car with the key to check. Avis lost a 36 year customer today. Had a family emergency in DC - emergency open heart surgery - and Avis State College would charge us $2,500 to return the car to another location. Even the Avis Customer Service Manager at Corporate laughed when we told her about the $2,500 charge and thought we were kidding. Local Manager would not budge, even at the requeat of Corporate customer service. I hope it was worth losing a decades long Preferred customer!

Was instructed by Avis Emergency Service to return car to closest Avis rental service (State College Airport) due to safety issues. Counter rep told me I would need to file a claim before replacing and would need management approval. Asked for name of manager. Reps became very defensive and asked why names were needed. I was offered Van butt rental was for an SUV for three weeks. Rep told me take Van or get the hell out of here. Then decided I could not have Van.
