If you rent an Avis vehicle from the Savannah Airport do yourself a favor and keep your fuel receipt AND take pictures of your fuel gauge at the drop off location! Then, make sure you pay attention to the receipt they send to your email! The fuel charge wasnt on the recipt that was given to us at dropoff. They tried to charge me $90 for fuel when my husband fueled it up at the airport Shell 10 minutes before it was dropped off! I had one of the worst rental experiences I’ve ever had with Avis at the Savannah Airport on the night of October 16th. My family and I arrived around 11:30 PM to pick up our confirmed rental for the same time — but the Avis counter was completely empty. No agents. No signs. No way to get the keys to any cars. Meanwhile, the Hertz counter right next door was staffed and helping their customers without issue (they told me they hadn't seen the Avis employees in HOURS). Reserved a car 6 months ago. Our plane landed at 11:30pm and Avis was supposed to be open til 1am. When we got to the counter there was no one working and only this sign saying they’d be unable to rent any cars til the next day. This resulted in us having to wait 20 min for an Uber to take us to our hotel at midnight and wake up and take another Uber which was $70 total
Terrible experience. We needed to swap vehicles because the one we received was (1) hydroplaning in light rain (2) steering wheel/tire misalignment (3) shook at expressway speeds. We called the corporate office and they sent us to a location 20 minutes away from our hotel. That location said they couldn’t help as they were a franchise. There should be an option for zero stars. I will not be using Avis for any future travel needs. From the beginning, the service was horrible. I had a pick up time of 12 pm for my car rental and didn’t get my car rental until after 1pm. When I checked into my reservation, my car was not even ready at 12pm, plus when I got my rental car it reeked of smoke and you could tell that the smoke smell was covered up by cleaning products.
