Our Mum has recently moved into Atawhai & her room is one of the hospital care level rooms. The atmosphere at Atawhai is wonderful, it has an excellent vibe. The staff that I have dealt with have been incredibly caring & helpful and only too happy to help with Mum’s specific needs. The setting is great with lovely gardens, courtyards outside & inside its light, bright & airy. The closest thing to home that’s possible.
Leading up to the passing of my Nan, nurses continuously called her by the wrong name instead of calling her by her preferred name. If someone wants to be referred to as their preferred name they should be called that. The day before my Nan passed away, she had a stroke and was unable to eat anything, she couldn’t chew or swallow and was given a sponge and yet, she was still brought solid food when time and time again staff had been told she was unable to eat her solids.
