Visited this lovely store on Saturday & had the most delightful conversation with Rob. So nice to walk into a store and be greeted with a warm .. hello how’s your day which turned into a half hour chat & purchase of a fab dress! Thanks Rob you’re a treasure!
I discovered this gorgeous shop over the weekend. Customer service was outstanding, the shop owner was very knowledgeable about the artworks and beautiful artisan pieces for sale. The clothing range is Fabulous!
Had the pleasure of shopping at Art and Soul in Bangalow today, it stocks a wonderful range of African art from my beloved homeland. All made by local peoples from Eswatini to Malawi, the magnificant light installations made from recycled glass are an ingenuous nod to the creativity, resilience and tenacity of the glorious African peoples.
Sadly, this store stocks racist sculptures and colonial figurines, and appropriated African artefacts. I’m not sure that the owners are aware of the racist and colonial overtones of the goods they sell, but it’s an uncomfortable place to be in. It’s very disappointing to see that such things are still sold (and created) in 2023 to decorate people’s homes. I hope that the owners and artists would take the time to understand and reflect on the history of such items and the harm they cause.
What a beautiful treasure trove in the heart of Bangalow. There’s something for everyone, even the family pooch. Can’t wait to visit again Jacqui xx
