Frustrating. I got to the tunnel at 1250. The next passing was 130. At 128 a freight train came through. It filled up the tunnel with so much exhaust smoke, I guess they had to hold everyone to let it clear. We didn't get to go until 155. Basically, you have a 15 minute window out of every hour to get through. If you miss it, you're going to wait up to 45 minutes. And then trains will completely throw this schedule off. Heading to Whittier from Anchorage at the start of a cruise for the Alaskan views and history starts here. This beautiful drive from Anchorage leading up to this historic tunnel. And then opening up into the small town that is Whittier. There were bathrooms onsite by the tunnel while waiting in line. They get quite a few vehicles through per opening, but carpooling or taking a shuttle/bus is always recommended to keep the flow down.
