I've visited the Alpine store in Johnson City and Banner Elk on several occasions and have always had excellent service. Most of the staff members are eager to help and those that have been working for a few years seem to be well trained and know which product will be best for me. It's nice to go into a store and find people that use the products that they sell. On my last visit to Johnson City, I was looking for a Spyder Jacket that they did not have in stock. They called the company and had it there in a week! I was able to try on a similar style so there was no question about the correct size. And, nice relaxed, no pressure atmosphere.

Customer service is non-existant. – Just moved back to town and needed a new snowboard travel bag for a trip out west in a couple of months. The shop is stocked with plenty of merchandise from various brands. Had done my research online and wanted to support the local guys. I went into the store on a Sunday afternoon. There were plenty of employees and only one set of customers being fit for boots. They appeared to be getting some service. I got to the back of the shop where the snowboard hard goods are and was looking for the bag I wanted. There were a couple of employees behind the counter and what would appear to be his friends in front of the counter goofing off. All I was waiting on was someone to ask me if I needed help and I was going to make my purchase. No one ever did. I have shopped with Alpine near Sugar Mountain and in Knoxville and always received superior service. I decided this time, if I was going to get online customer service that is where I would make my purchase. I have been in the store before and never received the service that I have gotten at the other stores. It seems, from my experience, the employees are inexperienced and are there just to be warm bodies to watch the merchandise. One employee, upon my entering the store, did give me a mousey ?Hi?. The Johnson City store has deffinately lost my patronage. My suggestion, wait till you are in another city with a shop (Banner Elk, Boone, Knoxville, Nashville) and go to a shop there.
