Do not rent with this company, was charged a $100 excessive dirty vehicle fee at the end of a one day rental, no one mentioned to us that we need to wash the car before returning.
Our car was in great condition and drove perfectly. Customer service was super polite and helpful and we felt very well taken care of. I actually appreciated their thoughtfulness and help so much I'll probably rent from them on all future trips to Alaska! Also feels good to support a local business ☺️
The whole advertising slant is vehicles to go where the other rental car companies won't allow. I got an AWD Equinox which was adequate for the drive. However, it had a donut spare and, of course, I had a flat 180 miles north of Fairbanks. Beware! Check your spare. Mine was barely aired up. I had to beg air from a pipeline trucker I luckily got stuck in line with at road repair stop. Should've known to see what type of spare but was fooled by the how 4 x4 rental angle. Made a reservation through a 3rd party online and was told at the desk that my reservation would not be honored. I have a confirmation from Nextcar that Alaska 4x4 (their local affiliate) is supposed to honor, but are refusing. I never received notice from the local company, Nextcar, or rentalcars.moc, but Alaska 4x4 claims Nextcar overbooked their inventory. Now I'm stuck at the airport with no car! Thankfully, I was not charged (yet).
Booked a vehicle, paid for it, got a $30 cab ride to pick it up. Was dropped off at their main office in Fairbanks, where the told me I can’t pick up there and, without an apology, left me to walk to the airport desk. There, they told me they have no cars available. I’m fine with limited stock, but these folks misrepresented themselves completely. Now I’ve lost an hour of my time, $60 round trip to the airport, and no rental.
