21st Century was hired to paint three sides to the exterior of our home in December of 2015. They painted on not quite thoroughly dried redwood, against my objections, and 10 months later a massive bubble outbreak occurred. Two attempts were made to fix the problem over the next 2.5 to 3 years, however due to the poor prep job more bubbles kept appearing and the subsequent poor patch jobs on the repaired areas caused the area to bubble and crack again. There are a total of approximately 50-70 bubbled/cracked areas on the side, front and rear of the home. On August 28th 2019 Operations Manager Jennifer Powell from 21st Century called and said my warranty on the job was expired, their good faith efforts to fix it were through and we must now pay for any repairs although I had still been working right up to this time with supervisor Darrell Butler to get the job finished. I reminded her that the daily newspaper supplement advertising flyer from which I hired them states "10 years warranty on all painting against chipping flaking and peeling on stucco, and 7 years on all wood". She further stated to "check your contract fine print, LABOR is only guaranteed for 1 year, MATERIALS are guaranteed for 7 years." This is in direct opposition to their misleading advertised guarantee stated boldly on their advertising flyer and at no time during the process did anyone mention to me we were approaching a deadline of 1 year and needed to expedite the repairs. She stated the only reason for the bubbling was the age of the redwood (ridiculous) and the Kelly Moore paint company reps, with whom I also met, who visited the site sometime in 2017 to determine if paint quality was the culprit had said as much to her. This is not true as I met with them and they never once determined or stated to me wood age was responsible; they only wanted to see if the paint was perhaps contaminated, which it was not. When I asked Jennifer for a hard copy of the Kelly-Moore reps alleged determination that the wood was to blame, I was told they no longer work for the company and no hard copy exists. Then on September 17th 2019 I accidentally met with a Kelly-Moore rep in front of my house ( I had no idea he was coming) who asked to inspect the damage. The rep (John Carleton, a 20+ year former house painter) took one look at the damage and commented that the obvious reason for the bubbling was the poor prep job, the lack of sufficient surface sanding as required by my written contract and the strange and unnecessary patching on a lot of surface area from the initial paint job and subsequent attempts at repairs. I have an email in my possession from John stating as much as proof 21st Century is lying about their culpability in this matter. I have text printouts with 21st Century job supervisor Darrell Butler dating from February 5 2018-present documenting I was stalled with an excuse why work could not commence on finally fixing this problem no less than 14 times (painters sick, Darrell sick, painter on vacation, painter sick, family member dead, etc, etc!) The texts and excuses prior to that date were deleted from my phone, but they number in the near double digits also. Through no fault of my own was this ridiculous amount of time fixing their poor workmanship my fault and now they are reneging on successfully completing the job contracted.
