On September 3, 1968, a small group of members from the International Association of Machinists (District 837) pooled their money to provide loans to members at reasonable rates of interest. All employees of McDonnell Douglas could join the District 837 Credit Union. Within six months, we had 278 members, $4,140.95 in deposits, and $3,009.75 in loans.
